Interesting Facts about REPUBLIC DAY
Republic Day is a national holiday in India, when the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26, January 1950, Here some interesting information about Republic Day-
• The first Republic Day was celebrated three years after we got Independence on January 26, 1950.
• The Indian Constitution was drafted in 2 years 11 months and 18 day
• There are only two original handwritten copies of the Constitution in Hindi and English. These copies re kept in helium-filled cases in the Parliament.
• The first Republic Day parade took place on January 26, 1950 and the Indonesian President Dr Sukarno was the chief guest.
• The original handwritten copies of the Indian Constitution were signed by 308 members of the Assembly on January 24, 1950.
• The Constituent Assembly was headed by Dr Rajendra Prasad. Dr BR Ambedkar was made the Chairman of the Drafting Committee. Dr Ambedkar is also known as "Architect of the Constitution of India".
• India is celebrating its 73th Republic Day on 26th January 2022.
• Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first person to take the Oath of Presidentship. He was also the first President of India.
• The Oath was taken place at Dubar Hall of government house on January 26th, 1950.
• The first R-Day parade at Rajpath was held in 1955.
• A Christian song, Abide With Me, is played at the Republic Day Parade. It is believed to be one of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite songs
• The Indian Constitution features 448 articles and 12 schedules.
• There will be no chief guest at Republic Day parade on Janpath this year.
